Troubleshooting

The most common problems and the steps to resolve them. For any problem not listed here, email vetesting@yahoo.com. PARC examiners are volunteers; allow up to 24 hours for a reply.

Before the Session

The Registration or Zoom Link Has Not Arrived

These are two separate emails. The registration link is sent within 48 hours of booking; registrations are processed once a day, so candidates who book for the following day should continue to monitor their email. The Zoom link is sent at least 45 minutes before the examination. Check spam and junk folders for both. If the examination is approaching and neither email has arrived, contact PARC by email.

A Non-Payment Notice After Paying

Either the card payment was not completed, or the name and email address on the payment do not match those on the examination registration. Email PARC to request an invoice, which will be sent with your name in the subject line.

Devices Cannot Be Renamed in Zoom

Devices cannot be renamed in the waiting room. Sign out of the Zoom application on both devices, then open the link from the email on each device. Zoom requests a name when joining: enter your first and last name followed by “computer” or “phone”.

Naming the Devices

Rescheduling

Email PARC as soon as possible. The time slot can usually be offered to another candidate, and volunteers have reserved that time for the examination.

Equipment

Only an iPad or Chromebook Is Available

Neither device can be used as the examination computer. These devices turn off the camera when sharing the screen, and the candidate’s face must remain visible throughout the examination. A Windows or Mac laptop or desktop computer is required. An iPad or phone may be used as the second device.

Multiple Monitors

Only one screen may be in operation in the room. Turn off, turn away or cover all other screens. A laptop may not be connected to a docking station.

Zoom Does Not Open, or Works Only in a Browser

The Zoom application must be installed and running; Zoom in a web browser cannot be used for the examination. Install the application in advance and test the camera and microphone before the day of the examination.

External Mouse or Keyboard on a Laptop

External mice and keyboards are not permitted and are not required. Answers are entered with the A, B, C and D keys, and questions advance automatically. Do not scroll or use the trackpad during the examination.

Exam Day

The Scheduled Time Has Passed While in the Waiting Room

Remain in the waiting room. A candidate in the waiting room has received a link and is on the schedule. Sessions can run late when earlier candidates require more time.

Testing Screen Sharing While Waiting

Screen sharing and other Zoom features must not be tested in the waiting room. Doing so results in removal from the session. Wait for the team to admit you.

Watches and Other Wearable Devices

Watches, earbuds, headphones, smart glasses and hats must be removed before joining Zoom and placed out of reach.

Audio Feedback When the Phone Joins

Do not join audio on the phone. On an iPhone, select “Cancel” at the audio prompt; on other devices, select “Deny” or “Dial by phone,” or make no selection. When the team admits the phone to the session, place it down and do not touch it, regardless of what appears on the screen.

Preparing Your Second Device

After the Exam

The CSCE Has Not Arrived

The CSCE is emailed within 48 hours of an online session. It serves as proof of the elements passed until the license appears in the FCC database.

The Call Sign Has Not Been Issued

PARC files electronically, so a license or upgrade can be granted the same day during FCC business hours. Issuance depends on FCC systems and can take up to 5–7 business days. Wait ten business days before contacting PARC or the FCC. New license candidates must also watch for the FCC application fee email: the fee is due within 10 days. Check spam and junk folders.
